Accessibility

Unfortunately, my practice is not wheelchair accessible. Access to the cabin is via a side alley by my house. I have a gravel path leading to the cabin and two steps into the building. Please let me know if this is a concern for you.

FAQs

Here are some frequently asked questions to get you started.

You are welcome to contact me with any other queries you may have.

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

There isn't one right way to know whether counselling is for you. You don't need to have everything figured out before you begin, or even know exactly what you want to change. Sometimes simply having a space to talk about what's going on can be a useful place to start.

An introductory call gives us a chance to talk about what has brought you to counselling and what you're looking for, and to see whether working together feels right for you.

How will I know if we're the right fit?

The relationship between counsellor and client is at the heart of the work, and I believe it matters that you feel comfortable enough to be yourself with me.

The introductory call is a chance for us both to get a sense of each other before you decide whether you'd like to go ahead. You don't need to make a commitment during the call, and it's completely okay if you decide I'm not the right counsellor for you.

What can I expect from my first session?

The first session is an opportunity to begin getting to know one another and to talk about what has brought you to counselling. We'll also go through the practical side of working together, including the counselling agreement and confidentiality.

You don't need to arrive with a carefully prepared story. We can take things at your pace, and begin wherever feels most natural.

What if I don't know what to talk about?

That's absolutely okay. You don't need to know how counselling works or arrive with a list of things you need to discuss.

Sometimes we'll talk about what's happening in your life now; sometimes something from the past will emerge; sometimes you may simply notice that something feels difficult to put into words. We can find our way together, without needing to force the process.

How long will I need to have counselling?

There's no fixed answer to this, as everyone comes to counselling with different circumstances and hopes for the work.

Some people find that a few sessions around a particular difficulty are helpful, while others benefit from having more time to explore things in greater depth. We'll keep the work under review together, so that counselling remains purposeful and appropriate for you.

Will everything I say be kept confidential?

What you share with me is treated as confidential, and I will discuss confidentiality and its boundaries with you when we begin working together.

There are a small number of circumstances where confidentiality may need to be broken, for example where there is a serious concern about someone's safety or where I am legally required to disclose information. These limits are explained fully in my counselling agreement, so you will know what to expect from the outset.

Can I talk about spirituality or faith in counselling?

Yes. Spirituality, faith and questions about meaning can be an important part of our lives, and I welcome you bringing these into counselling if they matter to you.

I am open to people of all faiths and beliefs, as well as people who don't consider themselves religious. My role isn't to tell you what to believe, but to provide a space where you can explore your own experiences, questions and beliefs with curiosity and without judgement.

What happens if I need to cancel or miss a session?

I understand that sometimes life gets in the way. I ask for 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or rearrange a session. Sessions cancelled with less notice may still be charged, depending on the circumstances.

The full details are set out in our counselling agreement, which we'll go through together before we begin regular sessions.

Do you offer counselling online as well as in person?

Yes. I primarily offer counselling in person from my peaceful garden cabin in Faversham. Online sessions are also available where needed, for example if travelling to the cabin isn't possible.

What happens after I decide I'd like to work with you?

If, after our introductory call, we both feel that working together might be a good fit, we'll arrange your first session.

Before we begin regular counselling, I'll send you the information you need and we'll go through the counselling agreement together. From there, we can begin to explore what has brought you to counselling and what you hope to get from the work.

You don't need to know exactly where the counselling will take you. We'll work it out together, at a pace that feels manageable for you.
